The origin of sulfur in gasoline, the thoil's influences on gasoline's quality, the method of sweetening and its development are summarized in this article, and the sweetening technology of oil products, especially, some kinds of Merox industrialized sweetening technologies are mainly introduced, and the application of sweetening technology in Chinese oil refining industry in recent years and its developing trend are also discussed. A new caustic-free sweetening technology with AFS-12 catalyst and ZH-22 cocatalyst for gasoline of RFCC is described as follow, two calibration results during the nine-month testing showed that the testing plant had been running under good operation condition, and almost with no waste draining, the sweetened gasoline conforms to the production requirements, and its quality is better than that by liquid-liquid Merox sweetening process, the technology is especially suitable for RFCC gasoline sweetening. The 0.8Mt/a caustic-free sweetening unit was designed base on the successful testing results of 50Kt/a unit, and the new caustic-free sweetening process design programme is introduced, indicating that this new technology is one of main methods for the production of gasoline-sweetening. The industrial application data of new technology were analyzed during the nine-month test-running with two technical calibrations. After one-year operation practices, the facts showed that the catalyst had high activity and stability, long service life and good adaptability to feedstock. The new technology not only economizes lye and depresses stress but also the quality of refined gasoline is better than that by liquid-liquid Merox sweetening process. The qualified ratio of sweetened gasoline reached 98.9%. The process was easy for operation and had large social benefits with small waste draining quantity.
