Saving energy and protecting environment are an very important and indispensible concerning in any field which includes how to make reasonable and full use of sun energy. As for air conditioning systems of buildings and transportation veichles ,it is enough to let visible sun ray pass through them for lighting while insulating infrared rays especially near-infrared rays ranging from 0.8um to 2.5um which can dramatically produce large amount of heat. Whatever the results of nano-scale materials used in coatings may be in the future ,we can predict that a novel, functional materials with properties of heat-insulating,transparency,and anti-ultraviolet will definitely have a big market because of its function of energy-saving and anti-aging.Aiming at the needs of market and the exellent properties of nanometer material itself,we focus on developing novel,water-soluble,transparent coating additives which can insulate UV and near-infrared rays from sun rays. Thus, application of these materials mentioned above in coating and other purposes may serve the functions of both energy-saving and anti-aging. Based on the aims above mentioned, several kinds of inorganic oxides(including Fe2O3,TiO2,Y2O3,Al2O3,ZnO)/poly acrylate acid(PAA for short) have been synthesized first through sol-gel method and then by means of free radical polymerization.Besides, C60-PAMPS was synthesized by free radical polymerization, too. The structures and morphologies of all these products are characterized by UV,FTIR,RF,TEM and also particle size analysis. The results of TEM reveal that inorganic oxides/PAA take on appearances of sheet ,yet C60-PAMPS compound appears ball-like with an average size of 30nm-50nm ; Particle size analysis shows that particle size differs greatly as a result of preparation methods and the different types of inorganic oxides/poly acrylate acid. Fe2O3 /PAA has the smallest particle size of 10 nm on average and demonstrates the best anti-ultraviolet property among these compounds. When mass content of Fe2O3 is 2%, Fe2O3 /PAA almost shields all ultraviolet at the range of 220nm-400nm。Whereas TiO2/PAA shows strong ability to insulate near-infrared radiation. Transmittence of TiO2/PAA declined to 11% at concentration of 8% for TiO2. C60-PAMPS shows abilities to shield UV and IR to some degree . When concentration of C60 in C60-PAMPS is 1‰and 4‰,the corresponding trasmittences is 20% and 50%,respectively. Changing thickness of coatings containing C60-PAMPS from 5μm to 30μm while retaining concentration of 4‰, the corresponding transmittances decreased from 45% to 15%.
