According to the characteristic of SAW, the main research work focused on as followed:1, To meet the demand of the SAW control, This paper introduces a design of the digital control system for submerged arc welding (SAW) applicable to various sorts of welding rectifier and feed wire device droved by DC motor, a control system of power source and digital process with 80C196KB as the core was designed. The developed welder presented many advantages such as welding parameters preset, store, lock, display, and automatic arc starting and stopping functions.2, The welding power source made of three-phase half-control bridge thyristor rectifier provided four kind of static output characteristics which were constant current, constant voltage, quick and slowly current descending. Two PI adjustors were applied for wire feeding velocity control, one performed motor armature voltage feedback, the other one executed arc voltage feedback to determine the given velocity.3, Exchanging data of power source and process controller by adapting 20mA current loop by a serial communication interface, which satisfy real time control demand. The manner of arc starting control increases succeed rate, current attenuation arc stopping control improves welding shaped of arc pit. The interface of man-machine abundances the function of SAW.4, Designing system software modularizly, carving up module according to various, function, include sampling conversion, man-machine interface, system parameter setting, parameter presetting, online communication etc. Designing manifold arithmetic of arithmetic mean value filter the waves PI control etc., guaranteeing characteristic of real time and precision of the system.
