Man-nature relationship is the basic relationship for man's existence anddevelopment. There are three main stages in the evolution of the relationshipbetween man and nature. The history shows that science and technology plays animportant role in the evolution of the man-nature relationship. But science andtechnology is a double-edged sword. Their development also harmed the balanceof the nature and brought about some problems. However these problems arecaused by cognitive, economic,and social factors, so science and technologyshould not be entirely blamed for causing these troubles. Favorable socialenvironment should be formed so that science and technology could enhancetheir positive role in the coordinating development between man and nature.Human beings make the nature a more favorable place for our existence anddevelopment by reforming the nature consciously. But on the other hand, we alsoencounter many problems such as population over-acceleration, resourceshortage, ecological destruction, environment deterioration, and so on. In order tosolve these problems, we changed our point of view toward nature anddevelopment, and sustainable development was put forward. In addition, legalmeasures and also scientific & technological measures are taken by manycountries to solve those problems.Sustainable development is also the inevitable choice of China. Science andtechnology plays a positive role in the realization of sustainable development, sofurther development of science and technology is needed for China to achieve thecoordinating development between man and nature.
