Although the computer aided professional software is applied in a lot of fields such as Punch, Forge, Injection Mould, Architecture, Aecoration, Costume, there is seldom people who is involved in the development of CAD system on the Powder Metallurgy Compacting Die. Along with the increasing popularity of computer and the forming of the status of market economy competition, the user's request for the standardization of Powder Metallurgy Product, standard design and high speed in the new product development is becoming more and more severe. The tradditional kind of manual design apprently appears incompetent for the newly demand, and consequently, the desire for intelligente P.D CAD system is growing rapidly.This paper make a comprehensive investigation on the methods about further development based on SolidWorks, and by using the general technology of CAD system development, a set of intelligent CAD system is builded, which is applied in the design of P.D Compacting Die for Withdrawing Process. This system can help the mould designer working more efficient whose works involve product modeling, technics design, mould structure design and part design. The details of this paper are as follows: (1) The procedure of tradditional kind of manual design is concluded; (2) The functions of P.D CAD system are analyzed and the function model of it is builded up based on IDEFO; (3) The technical knowledge of P.D mould is summarized and the different way which is used to handle them is introduced; (4) The method of further development on SolidWorks by using VB is discussed; (5) The method of the parameterized design of SolidWorks is introduced, and based on it's ideal, the database of the standard parts of P.D Compacting Die for Withdrawing Process is established; (6) The ideal about parameterized assemble design based on SolidWorks is proposed and the key techniques which is successfully applied in the Mould Assemble design is introduced; (7) The knowledge database and the SolidWorks Mould Storage are also builded and the transfer, management and maintenace of them are realized by establishing the system program and relative user interface.
