The Comparative Study On Traditional Furniture Of China And Korea

Chinese and Korean traditional furniture, located in the same East Asian culture, has developed two different furniture styles and finally formed characteristic styles and genre of their own which adapt different customs.(This paper's main research objects are Chinese Ming style furniture and Korean Yi dynasty furniture). The paper first introduces the Korean traditional furniture by literal form and summarizes it actually and elaborately. The typical examples of Chinese traditional furniture are combined, which use comparative research method, to emphasis the inside and outside reason's similarities and differences of forming mature furniture styles and characters after formal polarization of Chinese and Korean traditional furniture. As the carrier of culture, the shape-making style's reason of furniture involves extensive range. Due to special historical and geographical relationships of China and Korea, it is inevitable affected by the humanistic function of background of history and geography, culture, philosophy, folk-custom and so on, which produce assimilation and dissimilation. This paper analyzes these outside reasons and discusses influence of furniture's style. Combining with the typical examples of Chinese and Korean excellent traditional furniture, the paper summarizes and compares the internal reasons of furniture shape, structure, material, decoration and so on. By primarily analyzing aspects of shape's structure, character and detailed component, the two country's traditional furniture, located in different custom, is known, which has similarities and differences in shape factors of scale, detailed component, in shape characters of artistic style, shape style, proportion degree and so on, in structure character of composing mode and frame mode, and in furniture material circumstances, theme and technique of decoration. Chinese and Korean traditional furniture has similar commonness and particular individuality. The two countries both make a lot of work on development of traditional furniture. How to continue to design in order to break through the old pattern is worthy to be discussed. This paper collects related information based on the start of these problems and advances the author's personal view. Based on the consummation of the paper and compensation of traditional furniture's research work, I hope to dig new ideas of Chinese traditional furniture's research with completely new view through knowing the different traditional furniture style and reasons of genre in depth.
