In this paper, eight kinds of coal and fifteen additives with different structural characteristics were selected to evaluate the correlation between structural characteristics of additives and properties of coal water slurry. Some significative conclusions as follows:1. The correlation between degree of polymerization of polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether and the properties of coal water slurry prepared from eight kinds of coal was investigated. The results indicated that degree of polymerization of polyoxyethylene nonyl phenyl ether had the best range of influence on the properties of coal water slurry including the slurryability and rheological behavior as well as static stability. Low or high degree of polymerization was unfavorable to improving the properties of coal water slurry.2. The correlation between degree of polymerization of Polymerization of poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate) (PSS) and the properties of coal water slurry prepared from eight kinds of coal was studied. The results indicated that the PSS with high degree of polymerization could improve both the rheological behavior and the static stability of CWS. However, high adsorbance of the PSS with high degree of polymerization was unfavorable to the rheological behavior.3. The correlation between naphthalenesulfonate-formaldehyde condensate (NSF) with different substitutes and the properties of coal water slurry prepared from eight kinds of coal was investigated. The results indicated that the introduction of methyl substitute into the monomer of polynuclear aromatic sulphonate promoted improvement in the rheological behavior and the static stability of CWS, but at the same time it was unfavorable to the slurryability of CWS. The presence of benzyl substitute improved the slurryability of CWS prepared with coals of low content of Oad but it was unfavorable to improving the static stability of CWS.4. The effect of different kinds of additives on the interface electro-chemical property of coal particles and adsorption characteristics were studied. The results showed that the spatial structure of additives and hydrophile-lipophile balance as well as the degree of sulphonation were notably related to both the ranks of coal and characteristics of pore structure. Furthermore, the correlation effectively affect the interface electro-chemical property of coal particles and adsorption characteristics.
