Among many factors which influence the changes of climate, cloud and aerosol play a key role. But they also have a very strong indetermination. Through absorbing and scattering the solar radiation and the long wavelength radiation of the earth, the aerosol in troposphere affects regional, even global climate. So many countries take the measurement of the optical characteristics of the aerosol into full account.Lidar is a powerful instrument to measure cloud and aerosol. Comparing other measurement tools, it has a full superiority to measure aerosol in troposphere. Developing process of Lidar and its application status are summarized in this paper. The working principle and some correlating technical coefficients of a Mie scattering Lidar which is established by our laboratory are introduced in detail. And this Lidar's wavelength is 1064nm. The process of calibrating received signal and the calibration method of the system's geometric overlap factor are discussed. The strict calibration steps are laid out, too.In the paper, the important significance and the theory basis of detecting aerosol are indicated. The method of processing the measured data and the theory about inversion equation of aerosol Lidar are clarified systematically. Based on this, the data measured at night in Suzhou is processed and analyzed. In the end, a few of typical vertical distributions of aerosol in troposphere above Suzhou and several extinction coefficient profiles with time are given.
