Iron catalyst could polymerize butadiene into high vinyl polybutadiene (poly(Bd)) with 1,2-units more than 90%. This paper, to find new suitable ligand for high activity iron catalyst used to polymerize butadiene, based on Fe(naph)3 system, has a pilot study on the effect of EPI and (CAC, chloroacetyl chloride) on AL-Fe activity, the relative molecular weight and its distribution, gel, and the microstructure of the polymer.The polymerization rate could reach 30%, When adding CAC, condition catalyst [Bd]=162g/l, n(Fe)/n(Bd)=9.6×10-5mol/l, n(Al)/n(Fe)=25,n(CAC)/n(Fe)=6, aging 16 hours, temperature below 0℃ and polymerize for 5 hours. The relative molecular weight could range from 1 ×104 to 2×106, Mw/Mn less than 2. The percent of 1,2 unit can be adjusted from 91% to 65%. Conductivity of catalyst solution was carried out, which could reflect the reaction among different parts of the Al-Fe system. Whether the system is aging, the catalyst activity and the relative molecular weight are all different. The effect of the ratio of other parts of the catalyst system on the catalyst activity and relative molecular weight is similar to traditional Al-Mo system. The dynamics of the Al-Fe system was also studied, the rate of system is one; the polymerization speed of the system with EPI is higher than that of the system with CAC.This paper researches the effect of the rate of catalyst ingredient on the volume of gel. The volume of gel increases with increase of n(Al)/n(Fe) when the catalyst with CAC, the volume of gel decreases with increase of n(Al)/n(Fe) when the catalyst with EPI.
