Expert System is the most successful part of artificial intelligence technology. Using the Expert System effectively in the design and develop process of mechanical product is very important to improving the quality of product, shorten the design Cyc, lower the developing cost.The disposal of graphics and the numeration of project, especially the latter is the main difficult problem of the expert system of mechanical design. Based on the research of the powerful calculation function and self-contained toolbox of MATLAB, this paper try to resolve the calculation in project of the expert system of mechanical design by MATLAB.Based on this idea, this paper impressed on how to use Visual C++ 6.0 of Microsoft Company to use calculation function of MATLAB. With Visual C++ 6.0 and MATLAB as integration developing circumstance, we try to develop The Expert System of Design Rolling series of Rollers of External Screw Slant Mill which is adapted to Windows98/NT/2000 Operation System.In the system, we use the calculation engine of MATLAB to calculate and deduce the original parameters, to help the designers complete calculation and analysis work, to improve the accuracy and efficiency of calculation.The system is a new try of MATLAB application in machine design expert system.
