Radical reaction is an important tool in organic synthesis because of its moderate reaction condition, good regioselectivity and stereoselectivity along with significant functional group tolerance. It has attracted many chemists research interest. Free radical cyclization reaction is a new strategy to construct various types of cyclic compounds including biologically active natural products and pharmaceuticals, nowadays, it is one of the important research fields of organic chemistry. Free radical cyclization reactions are important tools in organic synthesis which take advantage of existing ring structures and avoid the unfavorable factors associated with other approaches in the construction of medium and large rings. In this thesis, we want to describe the new free radical cyclization reactions increasing three-carbon of 2-substituted indan-l,3-diones, which is the first report based on our knowledge. We have explored the free radical cyclization reactions of 2-phenyl indan-l,3-dione. In addition, we have also studied the radical reactions of 5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-l,3-dione.
