Co-processing of coal and vacuum resid is a way of clean use of coal. It can lessen environmental pollution and upgrade vacuum resid. As a result, coal and vacuum resid are changed into light oil. Co-processing has strategic significance in balancing energy structure and resolving the problem of petroleum shortage. In this thesis, the reaction conditions of co-processing Shenfu coal and Shenli Vacuum Resid (SVR) were studied. The TG experiments of SVR and Shenfu coal showed that the reaction temperature range on co-processing was 430~490C. For the coal conversion was low when co-rocessing SVR and Shenfu coal, it is improved by means of adding sulfur and anthracene into SVR, using hydrogenated SVR and benzene soluble fractions as solvent respectively. SVR was seperated into four subtractions, namely, saturates, aromatics, resin and asphaltene by alumina absorption column chromatogram, then they were co-processed with Shenfu coal respctively. The effect and mechanism of donating hydrogen were investigated by IR and GC-MS. The conclusions are reached:1 The optimum reaction temperature and time are 460 C and15 minutes respectively, the highest coal conversion is 48.56%. This shows that SVR isn't a good donor solvent for liquefaction.2 When SVR is added sulfur, its donor ability is enhanced a little(the highest coal conversion is gotten 50.9% at 9 minutes). Hydrogenated SVR isn't a good solvent for coal liquefaction (the maximal coal conversion is 49.95% at 12min) . The SVR and anthracene(l:l) is a better solvent(the coal conversion increases from 48.56% to 54.11% at 460C). Benzene soluble fractions from co-processing is a good solvent, when it is co-processed with coal, the maximal coal conversion is gotten 65.33% at 6 minutes.3 Effect of donating hydrogen ranks: aromatics > saturates > resin (As the mass content of asphaltene is only 2.77% in SVR, so it isn't been taken into account). SVR contains 32.12% aromatics, 15.34% saturates and 49.77% resin. By GC-MS, aromatics contains tetralin, naphthalene and methyl naphthalene. SVR isn't a good coal liquefaction solvent because it contains 49.77% resin and much long chain alkanes and cycloparaffins.
