Green Manufacturing (GM) is a sustainable development mode of modern enterprise. It can reduce the resource consumption and environmental pollution in the whole product life cycle, can take on notable social and economic benefits, and will become an important characteristic of manufacturing industries in the 21st century.Green Manufacturing Process Planning (GMPP) is one of the key technologies of GM, and its goal is to reduce the resource consumption and environmental pollution in the manufacturing processes by the optimization decision and plan of process element planning, process course planning and the assessment of the multi-process projects. The resource consumption includes such consumption as the raw material, energy, tool, fluid and the secondary raw material, etc; while the environmental impact includes ecological environmental pollution, workshop environmental impact, and person's health, production safety, etc.The hobbing process planning for Green manufacturing is one key technology of process planning for Green manufacturing. This paper researches in depth the decision-making frame model of hobbing process planning, the selection method of process element (hobbing machine, tool, fluid) and the optimum decision of hobbing process parameter, which rely on the National 863 Plan Project-"The Study on the Key Enabling Technology of Process Planning for Green Manufacturing and Application Supporting System" and Chongqing Natural Science Fund Project.In this paper, the hobbing process planning for green manufacturing is regarded as a serial decision-making problem. Firstly, the concept of process planning and hobbing process planning for Green manufacturing is discussed, and the decision-making objectives and frame model of the hobbing process planning are introduced. According to that, the element selection such as hobbing machine, tool, and fluid of the hobbing process for Green manufacturing is studied in detail.Based on the objectives and the datum and knowledge of resource consumption, the optimum decision of process parameter in the hobbing process is studied. By application of above theories and project team member's research findings, a supporting system of hobbing process planning for green manufacturing is developed. The system is applied in Chongqing Machine Tool Works, which can make an optimum decision of the process element (hobbing machine, hobbing tool and fluid) and optimumdecision-making of the process parameter in the hobbing machining process.
