Milling mechanism of the indexable three-dimensional complex groove milling insert and CAD/CAM technique are the kernel problems in the complex groove milling insert study. In the paper, instable temperature field of complex groove insert and groove reconstruction are studied respectively.Firstly, parametric model of three three-dimensional complex groove milling insert is formatted by ANSYS' inner developing tools (ANSYS Parametric Design Language, APDL and User Interface Design Language, UIDL),which provides solid model for finite element analysis.Secondly, solid model of the milling insert is translated into mesh generation , and the boundary condition is founded , then, finite element analysis on instable temperature field is formatted and the whole milling process is simulated dynamically. we find the rule of temperature distribution in milling insert cutting process, which is the foundation of discussing the reason of tool dilapidation and reconstructing groove.Based on above study, we gain the effect rule of cutting parameter and geometry parameter of tool against cutting temperature field and gain the relatively optimized value at the rage of given parameter considering productivity and life of tool when complex groove insert cutting 45 steel.The method of three-dimensional complex reconstruction is presented. The three-dimension groove surface is divided into some groove section lines along crosscut surface and the coordinate value of key-points are optimized by evaluate guide line of temperature field, then, the discrete points data is fitted by MATLAB language, then, the surface is reconstructed by the groove section lines, synchronously considering fairness of the curves and the surface and the new groove is gained. the new reconstruction groove isexcelled in property by finite element analysis, which provides a new method in complex groove design.In the paper, theory gists for study on temperature field and groove development are provided.
