Gear Shaving is one of gear finishing operations, which is widely used because of its high efficiency, high precision and low cost. However, after shaved by shaving cutter with true involute profiles, there are the "mid-concave" phenomena on the pitch points of shaved gear tooth profiles inevitably. The problem seriously affects the shaving accuracy and gear transmission quality, so it's necessary to study the shaving principles and take effective measurements to solve it. The dissertation makes systematic and deep studies and experiments on shaving process. The main research achievements are as follows:(1)Gear shaving is based on the meshing of crossed helical gear pair. The paper makes a brief introduction on crossed helical gear pair.(2)Based on conventional shaving theory, the paper systematically analyses shaving principles and the factors leading to mid-concave errors.(3)Designing the shaving cutter with unequal depth gashes .The cutter hasn't gashes on the pitch points and then hasn't cutter edges. During the shaving operation, the shaved gear isn't cutted on its pitch points. Consequently, the gear tooth form errors are reduced. The experiments are made and prove the design is correct.(4)The CAD system software of this kind of shaving cutter is developed successfully. In light of given parameters , the system can automatically draw the cutter's working drawing, create its solid model and complete the simulation of shaving process.
