In the course of the magnetic of retrieving vanadium and titanium magnetite in Panzhihua, about half of associated titanium dioxide, which have been partly retrieved and utilized, exist at the tailings, while the other half exist at the iron concentrates. When iron concentrates are smelted, most of titanium dioxide lose in the smelting iron slag in the form of several kinds of titanium compound. Counted according to iron annual yield (3,000,000 tons) at Pangang, about 600,000 tons titanium dioxide are contained in the smelting iron slag. According to existing technology, this part of titanium dioxide 骯n抰 be utilized yet, so it leads to the loss of titanium resource seriously. In order to utilize titanium resource of the slag comprehensively and effectively, there is most important theoretical value to research on the mineralogy characteristic of the smelting iron slag and provide theoretical foundation for retrieving titanium resource of the slag in the mineral processing. On the basis of inquiring about a vast amount of data and investigation, we make a more comprehensive analysis of the smelting iron slag in Panzhihua by taking advantage of advanced testing instrument, such as scanning electron microscope and electron probe, etc. We inspect the technology mineralogy characteristic of the slag, such as chemical composition, mineral constituent, physical chemistry properties of every kind of mineral, the intergrowth relationship of minerals, crystals technology size, and grindability, etc. Combining the production practice with the research for many years at Pangang, we make a thorough study on the distribution of titanium and titanium minerals, the mineral constituent and intergrowth of the smelting iron slag at Pangang, the chemical composition and the element condition of the slag, the influence of cooling velocity and alkalinity on crystal performance of perovskite of ii the slag, the cleavage characteristic of pcrovskitc of the slag in Panzhihua. It is clearer to master technology mineralogy characteristic of the smelting iron slag at Pangang, which has important guiding function on the experimental research .of mineral processing of the smelting iron slag at Pangang and comprehensive retrieval and utilization of titanium resource.
