This paper studied the batch emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate-butyl acrylate-crylic acid The effects of amount and composition of composite emulsifiers and of redox initiators on latex particle size were discussed by orthogonal experiment and homogeneous design experiment respectively. It was found that the optimum conditions for high conversion emulsion polymerization under 600C were: composite emulsifier 8.5%, the anionic/nonionc 2 emulsifier quality ratio 1:2, redox initiator 0.2%, (I-f SOi/S~O8 ) molar ratio 0.66. The copolymer structure was studied with lnfra-Red Spectrometry and DDV-III-EA Rheovibron Viscoelastorneter. As the application study on high property and rnultifunctional protective material for fruit trees, the study is based on the mechanism of plant frost injury .A kind of multifunctional emulsion coating with good qualities such as cold-hardness, water-conserving, agriculture chemicals release-slowness was produced by adding different additives. This emulsion coating has good properties of film-forming and adhesion. The penetration efficiency of visible radiation is above 85% ranging in 0.3~~0.7 it m, but the penetration efficiency of infrared in 7A 1 ii m was very low, adding 4% functional infrared ceramic powder would contribute to the shelter function of infrared. The 2 cold-hardness capability was improved by 100C, the water-loss ratio was decreased by 10% and this coating film can make agriculture chemicals release slowly. It was nontoxic and has no side-effects on fruit trees. This study aimed to have various protective functions rolled into one emulsion coating and it has a bright promising, it will contribute to the combination of Polymer Science and Agriculture Science. beneficially.
