Ink-jet photo printer is mainly used in advertising as a computer peripheral. With the development of electronic technology and the emergence of programmable logic device, have greatly promoted the development of ink-jet photo machine technology. This enables high-speed data transmission and high-precision ink-jet control possible.This paper analyzes the principle of ink-jet photo printer. Several commonly used architectures of ink-jet photo printer do compare. It suggests a new framework based on PC+a main control board(ARM)+carriage drive board (FPGA). The framework fully utilizes the powerful data process of PC to reduce the burden of the next-bit machine. It also reduces the design cost and development cycle.This paper focuses on the thermal ink-jet. It designs a parallel drive system of multi-ink-jet head based on programmable logic device FPGA, combined with the type of print head. The system can detect the state of nozzles. This function helps the user to get rid of troubles of print head to improve the efficiency. The system completes the operation of reading and writing for the USB controller using FPGA. This method realizes the high-speed data transmission between PC and FPGA. To meet the requirement of high-capacity data storage, SDRAM controller is designed based on FPGA to control data storage of SDRAM. The paper ultimately completes the prototype with the print media width to 150cm, print speed up to 22m2/h, the precision of 1200* 600DPI. It basically reached the performance of the main stream of foreign prototype.
