Chinese white dolphin (Sousa Chinensis) is an endangered species protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). It is also included in the red list of International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and is one kind of the first class national protected animals in China.The total number of Chinese white dolphin is about two thousand. Guangdong account for major part in the world. And Zhujiang have the most numbers in it. So the svrvey for Pear River region is very important for the influence of the organic pollutant to the health survival of this whole population.Pear River Estuary is considered to be a very important habitat for this animal, but the increasing contamination caused by the rapid economic development may pose serious threats to them. In this research, blubber samples from 15 dolphins stranded in western Pearl River Estuary were collected, and persistent organochlorine concentrations were then analyzed according to a traditional method (GC-μECD). The concentration from high to low is: DDTs > PCBs > HCHs > CHLs. The results showed that the mean∑PCBs was 2931.16 ( 123.1-10228.77 ng g-1 wet weight ),∑DDTs 65100.58 ( 871.57-179065.31 ng g-1 wet weight ),∑HCHs 404.77 ( 15.69-1870.56 ng g-1 wet weight), and∑CHLs 189.64 ( 31.50-1933.89 ng g-1 wet weight ). As referred to the data found in Hong Kong, the risk of PCBs on this animal is very low. However, the lower ratio of DDE than that in Hong Kong may imply that that a new source of DDT continued, and further study is necessary for confirmation. In PCBs, 5,6 and 7 Cl have the highest ratio。In HCHs,β-HCH is the main composition. Concentration of trans-Nonachlor and cis-Chlordane has highest percent in CHLs. The concentrations of HCHs and CHLs were similar to those recorded in previous Hong Kong Chinese white dolphin research. The BMF from fish to dolphin is HCHs(7581.24)> DDTs(1034.40)> PCBs(214.51)> CHLs(118.72)。There are four main nature reserves for Chinese white dolphin in Guangdong marine region. They locate in Zhujiang (National),Leizhou (National),Jiangmen (Guangdong Province) and Chaozhou (City). Conservation work for them is focus on population patters and distribution, pollution monitoring and detection, science research and education,From examination of dead volume to living sampling.Chinese White Dophin mainly distribute in Chao-shan, Zhujiang and Zhanjiang waters of Guangdong Province. Due to the industry pollution and near coast activity, the healthy survival of this spieces is acutely and chronicly threatened. Although the population of Zhujiang is stable, the content of POPs is high. And the BMF is also high from fish to dophin in this region. We should pay attention to this isssuse since it may cause serious relation problem. The protection research of Zhanjiang and Chao-shan is just beginning and do not have system data and proceduels. The related department should know this serious thing and take action. In short, the survival situation of Chinese White Dolphin in Guangdong is stable recently, but there are lots of potential troubles. Further research and conservation work is needed for species rejuvenation.
