Different from flood and inundation caused by dam-break or insufficient drainage capacity of the rivers, the stormwater disaster caused by high-intensity rainfall in the city has its characteristic of strong bursts and its disaster losses are increasing simultaneously with the urban development. Compared to general cities, piedmont cities also have flash flood problems. Under high-intensity rainfall scenarios, it is affected more frequently, thus its stormwater disaster prevention and mitigation is an urgent task, the study of urban stormwater simulation has important application value.An extensive literature review is done for urban stormwater simulation techniques. The work for this research is summarized in the following.(1) Based on the analysis of SWMM's computational methods, 7 examples are designed to test the model's capabilities and precision in hydrological and hydrodynamic simulation. It's proved that SWMM is feasible for piedmont city's stormwater simulation. Several principles for land surface discretization and model parameters calibration are also summarized.(2) In-depth study of Jinan's rainfall-runoff characteristics, based on the double drainage system conception and SWMM, the Stormwater Simulation Model of Jinan is built. 15 rainfall scenarios are selected for model calibration and verification. Results show that the model is rational and reliable. Under difference magnitude rainfall scenarios, the variable roughness method is advocated.(3) Two study cases are taken to test the Stormwater Simulation Model of Jinan. Case 1 for marking drainage bottleneck of Jinan City's stormwater drainage system. Case 2 for rationality analysis of the newly disaster prevention and mitigation planning under high-intensity rainfall condition. Results show the model is reliable and applicable to Jinan's flood control and drainage practice.
