Studies of strong coupling between atoms and cavity field have been very active in the past 30 years due to its importance in the fundamental understanding of quantum electrodynamics. It have potential applications in quantum computation and quantum information processing.EIT is the result of the atomic coherent and quantum interference. It can be used to achieved light speed reduction optical quantum storage and nonlinear because of the properties of EIT medium (large dispersion and almost-vanishing absorption)1.In this thesis, the development of the investigation on the cavity QED system is reviewed firstly, including the atom beam, cold atom and Doppler-broaden medium, etc.normal mode splitting and multiple normal mode splitting peaks are described experimentally and theoretically. Additionally, a different regime of atom-cavity interaction has been investigated in a system with cold atoms in an optical lattice formed inside a high-finesse macroscopic optical cavity2.It has been shown that intracavity EIT leads to some interesting phenomena such as an ultranarrow spectral linewidth, frequency pulling, optical bistability,(multistability). It may be used for frequency stabilization and high-resolution, spectroscopic measurements and all-optical switch3.In the thesis,linear-dispersion theory was adopted to reasearch a composite atom-cavity system. By putting absorption and dispersion of intracavity three-energy level atom in the EIT condition (EIT medium) into the function of the empty-cavity transmission, we can see that a resonance transmission spectrum was splitted into three peaks consisting of two broad sidebands representing the vacuum Rabi splitting and a narrow central due to absorption and dispersion of EIT medium in the cavity. The method can be applied to all cavity which contained medium of any absorption and dispersion.
