Based on the Ordos core city as the research object, this paper used TM and UTM remote sensing data of 1990,2000,2008a and statistical yearbook in research area to analyze the landscape pattern changes in urbanization process at the base of GIS and used the landscape index, the dynamic change of landuse, the transfer matrix method. The result showed:(1) From 1990 to 2000 the fixed sand Artemisia of A Zhen reduced and mainly transformed to Stipa'. From 2000 to 2008 the farmland, residential land and industrial land increased substantially and mainly occupied fixed sand Artemisia and farmland. The landscape diversity index, evenness increased and the dominance index decreasing. The landscape fragmentation index was seriously.(2)In 1990 Kang Bashi was a higher transfer and mainly transformed into Artemisia (microphylla and poplar) and farmland. There were 873.2ha thyme transformed into the Artemisia (microphylla and poplar) and the contribution rate was 37%. In 2008 the urban area substantial increased and mainly occupied the fixed sand Artemisia, Artemisia (microphylla and poplar), farmland. The integrity of landscape was destructed. The fragmentation was serious. The diversity index and evenness index were higher, the differences between various patch types decreased, the dominance index decreased, patch shape tended to be irregular. (3) 1990 Highway Section distributed a large area of vegetation thyme weeds, farmland area was larger; by 2000, the agricultural observably reduced, the main into thyme weeds, fixed sand Artemisia, Artemisia (microphylla and poplar) and the Stipa grandis weeds; in 2008, the farmland area increased, the main contributor for the fixed sand Artemisia, Artemisia (microphylla and poplar), thyme weeds, the weeds's Stipa. Near the expressway, the integrity of landscape pattern was influenced fairly, serious fragmentation, FN1 and FN2 showed an upward trend; landscape diversity index and evenness index increased year by year; but advantage decreased.(4) During 1990 to 2000, in Dongsheng, the farmland area decreased, it chiefly transformed to the area of Stipa grandis weeds, there were 547.1 ha area into residential and industrial land. In 2008, the area of residential and industrial land increased again, mainly occupied by the weeds of the vegetation's Stipa. Dongsheng the landscape diversity index and evenness index decreased after the first increased; on the whole, the diversity and evenness decreased, the dominance increased, the fragmentation reduced. However, the only vegetation canopy of view, connectivity disrupted, delay, the fragmentation of vegetation was serious. This paper selected Dongsheng as a sub-study area for example, conducted an impact analysis of driving factors of landscape pattern. The city of Dongsheng is a representative city of the western, its development model and its impact on the landscape pattern has some representation.Through the analysis of remote sensing data and economic statistics, this paper considered that the driving factors of landscape pattern change of Dongsheng include the following:demographic factors, economic development factors and national policy factors.According to current situation of landscape pattern of study area, this papper selected elevation, slope, aspect, land use change, accumulated temperature, precipitation to overlay analyze and evaluated the ecological suitability and sensitivity. Based on the overall landscape pattern optimization method the paper divided the study area into the suitable area, the general suitable area, the vulnerable areas and the general vulnerable area. According the characteristics of each functional area proposed the development direction and the corresponding optimization measures.
