Many investigations of earthquake damages manifest that surface topography has significant amplification or reduction effects on ground motion, and therefore, it can influence the distribution of earthquake damages directly. The purpose of studying on the influence of surface topography is to explain the reasons for the large amplifications and spatial variations of the ground motion and to predict some of the features of the ground motion during future earthquakes. So analysis of the effect of topography is one of the most important and attractive filed in earthquake engineering. The objective of this thesis is to discuss effects of topography of earthquakes, through the analysis of finite element software, the following problems are analyzed, and some applicable results are obtained.The main target of this thesis is as follows:1,Study the influence of the soft soil layer to peak acceleration of earthquake, mainly study the thickness and depth of the soft soil layer to analysis the amplification effect or reduction effect of peak acceleration of earthquake.Study the filtration effect of the soft soil layer to seismic waves.2,study the amplification effect or reduction effect of surface topography to ground motions, In this thesis we mainly study the amplification effect of surface topography. We analysis scale of the width and depth of soft soil indentation and research the influence to peak acceleration of earthquake, study soft deposit layer and research the influence to peak acceleration of earthquake, study the valley and research the influence to peak acceleration of earthquake etc.The results show that the surface topography in this thesis have an obviously influence to peak acceleration of earthquake.While the depth of soft soil layer beyond some special number, it will reduce the earthquakes, the lager the scale of the width and depth of soft soil indentation,the more obviously the amplification effect of earthquake it has.
