Parallel optical computing represents the development direction of computing technology, because of its advantages such as high speed, huge capability, good flexibility and extendability. Optical vector-matrix multiplier(OVMM) can realize the multiplication between vector and matrix, which has extensive application value in optical computing domain. The work principle, micro-structure and optical character of DMD are analyzed in this paper. And two DMD (Digital Micro-mirror Devices) OVMM is designed based on the analysis. The main work as follows:1. The work principle and micro-structure of DMD are analyzed. Its optical character under coherent light is studied by theory simulation and experiment reasoning. The origin and influence of diffraction and interference is analyzed when the optical system irradiated under coherent light, then we gained the principle of optical coding and optical design of the system use DMD as special light modulator.2. Two DMD optical vector-matrix multiplier is designed through improvement of the traditional structure. Numerical simulation and theoretical analysis to the multiplication operation gain good result.3. The optical coding of DMD is emphatically analyzed. Through computer simulation, some optical character of system is studied. At the same time, the optimal coding to reduce the influence of diffraction and interference is found out through series experiments.4. An optical vector-matrix multiplier system of two micro-mirror devices is designed by using a He-Ne laser, a cylindrical lens, two micro-mirror devices and a photoelectric device. On the basis of the system experiment parameters and optical properties are analyzed, including the reliability, the stability of the system and the influences on the system caused by coherent optics.5. The theoretical analysis and experimental results of the system are discussed. Proved scheme of the system is given. And then some suggestions about the miniaturizing design of the system are given.The results of this paper is useful to the research of the OVMM and to the smart design. And it is also meaningful to the development of the parallel optical computing.
