With the growing of population, the Earth's entire environment faces a huge crisis, and the coordinated development of population and economy, which means the coordinated operation and mutual adaptation between the two systems, becomes one of the common issues in different regions of the world. But the basic way to solve the problem of regional population, resources and environment is to analyze population, resources, environment and other social ecumenical information comprehensively. However, statistical data provided by the traditional methods is statistic by district, thus makes it difficult to finish overlay analysis.Using GIS theory and technology and breaking through the traditional methods, the article researched into the Shiyang-River Basin, with the densest population, the most intense water exploitation and the most serious ecological problems, located in the inland river basins of Hexi Corridor, Gansu. We realized the spatialization of social statistics, showed spatial distribution of humanity Factor within the region, achieved high-precision quantitative analysis of the population and economic pressure, revealed the space difference in population and economic pressure of Shiyang- River Basin and came up with strategies to tackle the imbalance between population and economic development in different regions as well, which is of great and practical significance. Several conclusions were presented in the paper:(1)Scale Precision that broke the boundary of administrative divisions is improved by the method of putting administratively statistical data, according to certain rules, into a certain-sized distribution of the geographic or kilometer grid by using GIS method. Not only does not this new type of grid affect the social statistics gross in single unit, but also reflect more details of overall distribution of humanity Factor. Therefore, the results of this study were increasingly agreed with actually conditions.(2)This paper introduced quantitative analysis that is based on precise geographical grid into the population-economic pressure, provided new thoughts for the research on the economic pressure of regional population, improves the evaluation of population-economic pressure knowledge. Traditionally, study data are administrative units for census and statistics, thus, the evaluating results have good application in large scale. This new way, based on GIS technology, spacilizing the evaluation index of population-economic pressure and quantitatively analyzing population economic-pressure in a small grid of 1km×1km, in large extend improved traditional research method and gave a good complementary of that one.(3)Economic development can ease the population-economy pressure. Over-population is an obstructive factor of economic development, but is not fundamental. Only with the economic development will the tensions between population and economy be eased. If the economy developed slowly, the population, even if it is smaller, would not be conducive to ease the population-economy pressure.(4) The findings indicate that: Generally speaking, the population-economy pressure in the Shiyang River Basin is very severe. In Basin-wide, the area of population-economy pressure in better condition is only 0.5% of drainage area, and in good condition is 6.3%, both of which belong to the security state with total area of 6.8% of whole basin; the areas in worse and bad condition respectively account for 36.6% and 6.8% of basin area; the largest region in normal condition accounts for 49.8%, which most liable to converting into bad state due to its instability and fragile ecological environment.
