Study On The City Space Distribution In Sichuan Area In The Ming And Qing Dynasties With The Aid Of GIS

Sichuan cities in the Ming and Qing dynasties were the historical origins of the cities in Sichuan and Chongqing area in modern times. However, to this day, it is not very clear that what state such origins present. There are about 150 to 200 cities with city walls in Sichuan area in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Are there some regularity on their space distrbution? What are the connections between the distribution and geography feature?This paper attempts to form a new study method on historical city distribution in the view of geography information system(GIS). It is based on the space graph and relative attribute data of the historical cities in the Ming and Qing dynasties:â‘ Form space graph data and relative attribute data based on the cities in Sichuan area in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and discuss the anallytic method based on them and how to excavate the data ,thus revealing in the points of view the space distribution evalvemnt regularity in the Ming and Qing dynasties.â‘¡Discuss space distribution of the cities in Sichuan area in the Ming and Qing dynasties througy macrolay and review the function of the river valley and traffic on the distribution of the cities.â‘¢compare the distribution of the cities in sichuan area in the ming and qing dynasties with the present city planning system,and find out potential history inheritance in order to provide the reference for the city planning.In this paper there are some achievements and conclusion:â‘ Form the Ming dynasties to Qing dynasties.Sichuan and Chongqing area always were the most important prefectures with many area under their jurisdiction. At the same time the heart distribtion of the cities in Sichuan area presented shift northwest word in the Ming and Qing dynasties.â‘¡The city development in Sichuan area had close connection with rivers and traffic all the time ,especially for the larger ones.â‘¢According to the city disstribution in Ming and Qing dynasties or the modem city planning system,rivers play a very important role to the city development of Sichuan area .By the contrast of the data it can be found that more cities along main river valleys are being planned as higher grade district centers in the planning system of Sichuan province.
