This paper focuses on the scattering properties of small spherical particles and the properties of the light transmission in soot. The distributions of the light scattering in soot are given by Monte Carlo. Firstly, Mie theory for a spherical particle is introduced. Meanwhile the concepts of phrase function and H-G phrase function are introduced; Secondly, we introduce scattering theory and scalar radiative transfer theory for the soot. Based on the radiative transport theory, the method to solve the radiative transport equation of light passing into a plane-parallel discrete random medium, which is first-order multiple scattering approximation, is given; Finally, the light propagation in soot is simulated by Monte Carlo method. Otherwise, we discuss influences on transmission ratio,back-scattering ratio, absorbing ratio, by the correlative parameters of the medium, for example distributing characteristics of the particle size, volume concentration, angle of incidence, thickness of the medium and so on. At last, we briefly analyze influence of the multi-ply scattering on the extinction method to measure diameter of the particle.
