Aerial images truly record information of the surface patterns, vegetation cover, the natural landscape and environmental conditions of the time, which is valuable information of study on evolution and change in these areas. Through the comparative analysis of images collected in different times enables us to find out changes and make a mathematical analysis of surface over in that areas, such as historical conditions, variation range, variation speed, variation law.With the aerial image data acquisition and accumulation of different periods and different regions, more and more data need to manage, and it is necessary to establish an effective management system to resolve the problems in data transferring and query. A good established system for aerial images database management, retrieval and distribution, it not only can solve the problem of information loss caused by prolonged storage to aerial negatives, but also because of digital imaging intuitive, information-rich, application system of GIS using image as background can provide better basic data for resource management, disaster monitoring, environmental protection and other major projects .For the characteristics of the aerial image raster data, the paper explains how to use spatial data engine ArcSDE on mass digital aerial images data management. It also intensive study raster image data management methods of the spatial data engine ArcSDE, and what is store, access and indexing mechanism of the ArcSDE raster image data. On the bases of these research, in order to manage the aerial images data of the various cities and counties in Guizhou Province, we build an aerial images database based on a Client/Server model that can be achieved quickly browse images and query image metadata .It can allow any network node the access to image data, and also can analyze the project in the initial phase, manage permission for data borrow, query aerial parameters online, query on-line borrowed records, and so on .As a part of Guizhou Province's basal geographic information system, it would play a better decision-making role on the various cities and counties of the province in the future.
