PUB ( Prediction in Ungaged Basins) is research focus in water resources field. A great many of theories and methods of design flood estimation have been studied and applied by hydrologists, and lots of achievements and experience were obtained. In this paper most achievements of Chinese researches on design flood estimation in PUB are summarized. This paper was part of the Poverty Alleviation Project that sponsored by XinJiang University for RuoQiang county——"Flood control plan of Washixia river". The main works and conclusions were as follows:(1) Based on the reviews and summary of the available literatures and guidelines of design flood, the research advancements and existent problems for flood frequency analysis, flood estimation in ungauged area were analyzed and discussed;(2) The advancement of estimation of design flood at home and abroad was introduced and classified, and these advantages and disadvantages of the methods were compared. Then the estimators of PMP/PMF in several countries were analyzed systematically;(3) Based on the informations of study area, the reasons of flood, attenuation of peak flow and concentration flow time of watershed was estimated;(4) The flux of design flood in different frequency was estimated by a variety of methods, and the relative error was also analyzed briefly, which indicated that the methods were practicable. So it is worthy to be further researched and popularized in Xinjiang.(5) After we refered new references in hydrology in ungaged basins, some issues of hydrological development in XinJinag were pointed out, and suggestions and prospects on flood in the future research in ungaged area were also given.
