In recent years, the effect of geospacial information on the field of social science has been continuously emphasized. The dimensional character of some statistical information such as population and economic can be visualized through geographic information system, thus gain an intuitionistic change law of the distribution of population in space.Geographic Information System (GIS) is a combination of computer science, geographic geology, mapping science environmental science, space science management science and information science--- a novel interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary subject. GIS is a dimensional data system collecting, storing, managing, analyzing and describing geography related data of the entire earth surface or parts of it, with the help of computer hardware and software system.Data Mining, also known as knowledge discovery in database, is a process of extracting hidden, unknown but potential useful information from a large quantity of incomplete, noised and random data. This paper introduced the basical concepts of data mining and the Geographic Information System, according to which the following aspects were achieved:1, summarized and analyzed the GIS investigation of population development and on the spatial analysis of demographic data and conduct indephy study.2, By using VB+MapX , created census geographic information systems of the city of Nanjing.3, This paper introduced dimensional statistic method into Data Mining field, in order to discover the relationship between population and space . Applied spatial autocorrelation analysis and G statistical analysis to analyze the spatial association rules of sex ratio at birth in different periods.
