Piling positioning is an essential step in the construction of sea/river crossing bridges and ports. Before GPS is utilized maturely in piling positioning, we mainly use theodolite intersection to decide the azimuth and coordinates of the piles. With the development of GPS positioning technology, the maturity of the real-time carrier difference positioning technology has provided piling positioning a new research means. Therefore piling positioning system based on GPS-RTK and web RTK has gained development and application. GPS positioning is much more convenient than traditional methods, and also solved the problems with piling positioning offshore. Meanwhile, because RTK technology automatization has eliminated the effect of time difference, positioning precision has also been largely improved. However, we should still resort to traditional positioning methods in the following situations: one is to check whether piling positioning system is fixed and set correctly and the other one is to pile on the in shore decharge where big piling ship can't reach. While theodolite intersection can't meet the demand in both efficiency and precision, it is necessary to use total station to determine the coordinates directly. Meanwhile with the help of prismatic-free positioning function of some total stations nowadays, we can decide the axial direction of the pile, coordinates of the designed height surface and the height of the lowest point of the pile top, and thus achieve the orientation of the pile.Followings are what I haved done in this paper:1) Systematically reviewed and summarized the development and researching station of piling positioning consulting large number of document inside and outside the country.2) Put up 4 mathematic models positioning by total station which are four point method, four direction method, tangent distance method , generatrix tangent method, and validate the correctness of the models through several tests and analysis. 3) Programmed a positioning system software with MATLAB; Implemented real time communication between computer and total station and achieved visualize operation of the programme.4) Analyzed the positioning results of the models with error theory, which provided a theoretical sustain for practical work.
