With the rapid progress of Geographic Information Services, Experience Matters on the client side is still not solved well. Users usually face raster pictures, and are often puzzled by white screen. The bad experiences hamper the Geographic Information Services to be popular at a certain extent. The aim of this paper is to study the theory and method on using newly RIA to build Geographic Information Service with good user experiences based on the GIS technologies, especially the utility of new technologies and new thoughts. The main works and creations are as the following:1. The background and current research of Geographic Information Services are analyzed. Experience Matters in Geographic Information Services are pointed out, whose causes are analyzed. Vital theory and methods based on RIA and Geographic Information Services are brought forward, which are the base of this paper.2. On the analysis of the conceptual model and newly development of RIA, the methods to solve the Experience Matters are proposed: Ajax and WPF.3. The method of designing Ajax engine is discussed, and the idea of software engineering and design patterns are introduced to Ajax applications to build robust and reusable client system. Then a common architecture is put forward to combine multi-source GIS Web Services.4. WPF is applied to Geographic Information Services in this paper. The applications of WPF in Geographic Information Services based on raster picture are studied. Spatial data organization based on XAML and map interactions based on WPF/E are studied, which show that WPF is a new approach to Geographic Information Services.5. A common architecture of vector GIServices based on WPF is proposed, and its features is analyzed.
