This paper studys the application of digital elevation model in the engineering, realizing the research result useing the VC++ and OpenGL as the development tools.The author emphatically researches the modeling of the digital elevation model, three dimensions display technique of the terrain in the engineering and the engineering earthwork calculation. The article analyzes the modeling methods of the the triangulated irregular net, improves the algorithm of the triangulated net; the paper investigates the space coordinates retrieval based on the OpenGLand displays the triangulated irregular net in many method,such as the line frame, texture map etc;observes the engineering site from several directions,The rotation control, translation control, zoom control and other function are carried out in the engineering;the author studies the application of the digital elevation model in the engineering,including automatically building the contour,cross section and calculate the distance of the two points ,areas,earthwork in the engineering. On the basis of the theories and the technique above, the author develops a small computer system that can provide the terrain information and the amount of engineering calculation service for the engineering construction.
