Vindoline, catharanthine, anhydrovinblastine and vinblastine as alkaloids in Catharanthus roseus were determined by HPLC to investigate the alkaloids dynamic changes under different plant life cycle forms. In this study, the physiological and ecological significances were illuminated by dynamic analysis of alkaloids content variance, principal component analysis of plant life cycle forms and cluster analysis ofphenotypes. The results were as follows:Changes of Catharanthus roseus phenotypes, alkaloids contents and life cycle forms happened under different light intensities. The average contents of vindoline and catharanthine under different treatments were 4 grade<6 grade<2 grade, anhydrovinblastine and vinblastine were 4 grade<2 grade<6 grade, which indicated 2 grade light intensity promotes the accumulation of monomer alkaloids, and 6 grade light intensity promotes the accumulation of dimeric alkaloids. The PCA results were V0.897S0.071C0.032, V0.841S0.136C0.023 and V0.741S0.240C0.018, respectively. Higher light intensity stimulated the energy to sexual reproduction and declined in the clone reproduction. Phenotype cluster of the plants also showd the accordant impacts of light intensity in Catharanthus roseus.Catharanthus roseus phenotypes, life cycle forms and alkaloids contents were changed under different temperatures. After treated with 15/10℃, 25/20℃and 35/30℃, the alkaloids determination results showed that high temperature accelerate the accumulation of alkaloids, especially in anhydrovinblastine content. The PCA results were V0.973S0.000C0.027, V0.922S0.000C0.078 and V0.847S0.106C0.047, and high temperature promoted sexual reproduction. Cluster method divided the plants into 3 groups and under 35/30℃the division was most obvious.Control, light drought, moderate drought and heavy drought conditions were set in this research. And alkaloids contents, phenotypes and life cycle forms changed under different environments. Alkaloids increased to high levels under drought conditions, and anhydrovinblastine is most significant, which was correlated to the enzyme POD in drought environment. The PCA results were V0.39S0.54C0.07, V0.36S0.50C0.14, V0.53S0.27C0.20 and V0.45S0.09C0.46, respectively. Moderate drought and heavy drought conditions drove the accumulated energy decreased by 50%, changed the distribution ratio among V, S and C, less energy to vegetative growth and sexual reproduction and more to clone reproduction. Cluster results showed the plants divided into two groups and the treatments of moderate drought and heavy drought were distinct from control and light drought. This paper discussed the rule of dynamic changes of four alkaloids in Catharanthus roseus during the formations of different life cycle forms, and proved the theory of plant life cycle forms in physiological level of secondary metabolism. The results will enrich the theory of plant life cycle forms as well as provide reference for promoting the production of Catharanthus roseus alkaloids.
