Under the adjust conditions inside the door, the parents of 2-year-old Pingxiangred-transparent crucian carp Carassius auratus were made research on the compensa-tory growth using the methods of biology, biochemistry, physiology and the like.Fishes (weight: 80.65±6.43g, length: 16.66±0.21cm) were divided into four treatmentgroups including one group with continuous feeding (C) and three other groups withfood deprivation for 5 days (S5), 10days (S10) and 15days (S15), respectively. Allstarved fishes were refed for 15days (R5, R10, R15) following the certain period offood deprivation. Changes in body weight, specific growth rate, feeding rate, foodconversion efficiency, muscle composition, constituents and the three enzymes (AKP,GOT,GPT) activity in the serum, oxygen consumption and haematoglobin(Hb)content were examined respectively at the sample times to determine the type ofcompensatory growth in Pingxiang red-transparent crucian carp and the primarymechanism of the phenomenon. The results show (1) No matter for which the fishes were starved (5days, 10daysor 15days), all the fishes had the ablity of completely compensatory growth.(2)During the period of the 2-year-old mature parents' propagation, the wideth andthe height were the most sensitive, the weight was more sensitive, the length and thetotal length is not sensitive among the indices, the mature index was the mostsensitive, the liver hepatosomatic index was more sensitive, the condition factor wasnot sensitive in the indices which were described the status of nutrition.(3)There weremarkable changes in muscle composition and constituents during the starvation andafter refeeding, but after refeeding for 15days they all recovered as the level beforethe starvation.(4)The order of utilizing the stored materials was glycogen>lipid>protein, the tissue order of utilizing the stored materials was blood>glonad>muscle.(5)During starvation, there weren't markable variations in the activity of GOT andGPT. Neither were the activity of AKP. It's suggested that starvation for 15days didn'tdo harm for Pingxiang red-transparent crucian carp in the function of liver.(6)Due tono foods, the stable metabolism rate was declining, which lead to the decreasingneeds of the oxygen, so the Hb content was also decreasing; after refeeding, the stablemetabolism rate was gradually ascending.
