Softening and argillitization of sandwich is one of the main causes of problems and even accidents occurred in many geology engineering. However, Owing to the compositions and structures of sandwich as well as it's complex environment. there is a lock of systematic research on processes of softening and argillitization, especially quantitative research. Thus it is short of all around evaluation for the stability of sandwiches and foundations. So it is necessary to carry out further approach on processes of softening and argillitization. Based on water-rock interaction is the dominant factor of the processes, this paper study the processes with in-door simulation method, that is to say we choose typical sandwich rock sample and water and observe formal diversification of rock sample, in the same time record the primary indicators in water solution in different experimental time, in terms of elementary theory and methods of chemical kinetics, according to the analyses on experimental data, we can portray the process and mechanism. We find some new progress in the test.1. Rock samples quickly exhibit conversion from coarse grain to fine grain following reaction time in the test, and occur disintegration after a period of test, thereby sandwich lose integrality property and turn to bulking property.2. The content determinations of relate constituents in water solution submit non-linear relationship by reaction time in the test, it is show that complicated interactions are occurred in liquid-solid phase system, referring to congruence dissolution of dissolved salt as gypsum, halite; non-congruence dissolution of insoluble salt as aluminosilicate; as well as dissolution of agglutinate by rock particles as carbonate. We obtain dissolution rate constant and reaction mechanism of minerals partly, by disposing and analyses of experimental data basing on chemical kinetics methods.3. The processes also show that, there is amorphous substance on dielectric surface of solid, as following as non-congruence dissolution of aluminosilicate, it is the rudiment of secondary minerals. This is the beginning sign of argillitization ofsandwich.
