As a method analyzing rock stability, the block theory has the advantage which the other methods cannot compare with, so it has been adopting more and more by the stability analysis in rock engineering recently, such as in the field of tunnel and underground support, slope reinforcement, landslide regulation, mineral engineerin and so on, which have achieved significant economic and social benefits, demonstrated enormous potence.Based on summarizing the predecessors' achievements, the paper put emphasis on the following studies:(1) Introduce and summarize block thory and its application in slope and underground cavern excavation engineering systematically.(2) Point out the general problems of the studty and application of block theory, which is the the stability analysis and modeling of complicated block with multi-structural surface. To solve this problem, the auto-searching method for complicated block was deduced, which can proceed closed path auto-search according to two-dimensional trace of the structural surface in the open surface, then strech upwards to search three-dimensional block and analyze its mobility and stability, consequently, it can settle successfully the stability analysis of complicated block with arbitrary structural surface.(3) In the application of block thory, both the stability analysis about complicated block with multi- structural surfaces and the study about the modeling are very rare.For this problem, a modeling method by inscising block is deduced, with which complicate block can be three-dimentional modeled rather perfectly.(4) Develop software in Windows using Visual Basic and calling AutoCAD as flatform to display graphics.The sofetware named KBA1.0 (Key Block Analysis) is developed based on the block theory and the production in this paper,when the the geological report is given, it can calculate the exposure location, collapsing force, volume and so on of the arbitrary complicated block, additionaly, it can perform three-dimentional dynamic display to observe the the distability condition of the block. Examples have proved KBA1.0, which has ability to perform three-dimentional dynamic display that needed extraordinary in practical engineer, is convenient to operate with compact interface and the results are reliable.
