Geographic Information System(GIS) can manage large scale spatial information and attribute information, and has been widely applied in many fields. More deeply applied , more attention was paid on the GIS's capabilities on the combination, share and cooperation of spatial and non-spatial information. The workflow technology can combine the business pocess with information, and improve the cooperation of different departments. The combination of the workflow technology and GIS can largely improve GIS's capability of information integration and process cooperation.Based on the Geographic Information System for road-infrastructure management, this paper deeply analyses on the workflow technology for GIS, and a workflow technology framework for GIS is presented. Based on the framework, a system has been carried out and applied to the traffic control. The main search has three points:(1) After the study on the WfMC's workflow reference model and definition language—XPDL, a workflow model, which is fit for the GIS application, is presented. And a relevant graphical display method is realized.(2) Using the version technology in geodatabase and based on the Sagas transaction model, the Ver_Sagas transaction model is presented to fit the long transaction of spatial operation.(3) The micro-workflow technology is introducted. With the design principle of agility and low cost and after getting rid of traditional workflow's disadvantage of entirety and complexity, a micro-workflow framework for GIS is presented and is also realized.(4) Based on the above research and applied for road-infrastructure management, a road-infrastructure management system is built on the foundation of the micro-workflow framework for GIS.In practice, the micro-workflow framework in this paper is effective.
