With the Three-Gorge engineering constructing, Chongqing directly under the jurisdiction of Center government and the exploitation in west China, the society and economy had been a great change in Chongqing, which was reflected in the land use change pattern. Base on RS and GIS technology, the landscape pattern, dynamic change and the drive force in the downtown area of Chongqing were analyzed from 1995 to 2001. The main conclusions were as follows:(1) Due to the lost of some nature environmental elements, the landscape fragmentation in the study area increased and the landscape connectedness decreased obviously in 6 years. The landscape fragmentation was high in Banan district. The landscape fragmentation increased evidently in 6years in Beibei, Yubei, Banan and Nanan district, while decreased in Yuzhong district. The shape of landscape patches in Shapingba and Dadudou district was more formulae, while was more complex in Yuzhong and Jiangbei district. The landscape diversity was highest and the distribution of patch was even in Dadukou district, while the landscape diversity was least in Yuzhong district.(2) The woodland and field transformed to the residential and construction land in 6 years, and some field, grassland and water transformed to woodland. The dynamics of the residential and construction land was stronger than that of other types, and the dynamics of construction land was the strongest. The intensity of integrative dynamics in Dadukou district was the highest, and the next was in Nanan, Jiangbei and Yubei district. The dynamics of woodland in Beibei district was significant. The intensity of integrative dynamics of grassland in Beibei and Banan district was significantly higher than other districts. The intensity of integrative dynamics of water in Yuzhong and Banan district was significantly higher than that in other districts. The area of unutilized land in Yuzhong and Jiulongpo district decreased sharply. The intensity of integrative dynamics of paddy field was higher in Beibei, Yubei and Jiulongpo district. The intensity of integrative dynamics of dry land in Yuzhong and Dadukou district was higher. The intensity of integrative dynamics of the residential and construction land was the highest in Yubei district. The area of the residential and construction land in the downtown area of Chongqing would increase continuously, and field area would decrease rapidly in future by modeling prediction.(3) The results of drive force analysis showed that population and economy had influenced significantly on field change, wile the second drive force was agriculture science and technology. The un-agriculture population and the investment on society and construct were the two main drive factors. The drive force in every districts were different. The drive force of filed change was economy in Yuzhong, Dadukou, Beibei, Yubei and Nanan district, was population in Shapingba, Jiangbei and Banan district, and was science and technology in Jiulongpo district.
