Explosive with lined cavities, also named shaped charge or hollow charge. It's an equipment that can gather the energy of explosive in one direction through the metal liner in the cavity of the explosive. The metal liner can gather the chemical energy come from the explosion of explosive and translate this energy to kinetic energy. It's hard to drill a hole in the frozen soil with ordinary drill equipment, even with the special drill equipment it will cost a long time because of the complicated capability of frozen soil. How to develop a fast portable frozen soil penetrator is the main aim of this paper.The-state-of-art of the basic theories and its research of shaped charges at home and abroad was briefly introduced in this paper. The way to numerically simulate shaped charges and the penetration of target by shaped charge with ANSYS/LS-DYNA was described detailedly. The method to design a frozen-soil penetrator with ANSYS/LSDYNA was also discussed in this paper. In the end, a frozen-soil penetrator was successfully designed and optimized in the way discussed.First of all, several kinds of shaped charges that might suit the penetration of frozen soil was chosen according to the basic theories and experiential formula, then numerically simulate these shaped charges, analyze the simulated results and picked out three kinds of shaped charge which produce a kind of short and rough jets that is suit to penetrate frozen soil. Manufactured the three groups of shaped charges and do the frozen soil and stone penetration experiment with them. Then adjust the targets' model parameters according to the compare of simulated results and experimental results to make the simulated results agree the experimental results more.Finally, we optimize the shaped charge through the simulation of shaped charge with liners of different thickness and the dimension of explosive with ANSYS/LS-DYNA. The results is perfect and it's possible to get a deeper hole with the lighter shaped charge.An effective method to numerically simulate the shaped charge and the penetration of it was studied. The optimum design of shaped charge with this method was carried out and the experimental results proved the feasibility of this method. This method might be useful to the correlative design.
