The-state-of-art of the basic theories and its research of shaped charges at home and abroad was briefly introduced in this paper. Then the background, objective and necessity of the research project and the scheme of the model test was interpreted in details. Optimum design of prototype penetrator was carried out through large scale tests of prototype penetrator into hard rocks, weathered rocks, concrete, steels, stiff and soft soils, etc, and a new type of penetrator, which could penetrate holes with large depth and suitable diameters in rocks and soils, and which solved the problems of broken entrances of the holes and debris blocked in the holes, was found out. Similarity laws of model tests of shaped charges were derived and proof tests were carried out, which found a foundation for the penetrator research. The basic laws of shaped charges penetrating holes in rocks were revealed through large quantities of theoretical analyses and tests in this paper. According to characteristics of rocks, a new shape cover ,which was completely different from that of conventional anti-tank bombs, was specially designed. This cover can produce a kind of short and rough jet that are between conventional slim jet and exploded formed projectile. It solves a great difficulty, which is beset with at home and abroad for decades, in penetrating holes in rocks. The holes it produced are large in depths, suitable in diameters and round and straight in shapes. The penetrator developed by us is excellent over the similar products nationally and internationally. The basic laws of jet penetrating into rocks were first systematically developed at home and abroad. The penetration laws of penetrator with different cover structures and different cover materials in one kind of rock, as well as laws of one kind of penetrator into rocks with different hardness were explored. Besides, comparative tests in different media and comparative tests on penetrators with different shape and different cover structures were carried out. Tests on explosion heights, jet shapes photographed by x-rays and measurements of jet speed were also conducted.Dynamic finite element theory was derived in details, Using the code subprogram PRE2D, effects of different cover angle, charge-cover ration, geometrical shape of the cover and outer shell, etc were analyzed and calculated, and a set of calculations which are of theoretical and practical values were drawn.
