Mt. Emei is located in the Northwestern border mountain of Sichuan Basin (29°16' 30" ~29°43 ' 42" N; 103°10 ' 30" ~103°37 ' 10" E). The total area of the mountain is aboutl15.4km~2. Its main peak is 3099m above the sea level, and its bottom is only 500m. Furthermore, the vegetation, soil and climate of this region shows the clear vertical distribution. From about 1700 packages of mosses deposited in the herbarium of the Institute of Botany, CAS. From all these specimens, 46families,161genera and 349 species (including ten varieties and eight subspecies) have been identified. In Mt. Emei not only the species of mosses are very abundant, but the distribution type is diverse obviously. In the mossflora of Mt. Emei, temperate taxa are dominant, and some tropical, subtropical ones are exist. 13 East-Asiatic endemic genera and 35 Chinese endemic species have been found in this region.According to Prof. Wu Zheng-Yi's opinion, the mossflora of Mt. Emei have been divided into 13 areal types. East-Asiatic type (32.21%) are the most important one and the North Temperate type(21.17%) are also abundant; then the Tropical Asia type (18.10%) are the third one. In the East-Asiatic species, Sino-Japan type (18.10%) is more than Sino-Himalaya type (5.52%) .Comparison between the bryoflora of Mt. Emei and those of the other regions (including Mt. Jinfu, Shennongjia, Dujiang region ,Yushu, Mt. Jiuwan, Mt. Jizu, Mt. Jiufeng), the similarity coefficients of moss genera and species between Mt. Emei and Dujiang region are the higherst one (76.77% and 47.13% individually), while that between Mt. Emei and Mt. Jinfu are the second one (75.51% and 40% individually). The ordination method has been used for calculating the bryofloras of 8 major mountains or regions (including Mt. Emei). The relationships of the bryoflora between those of Mt. Emei,Dujianyan region,Mt. Jinfu and Shennongjia are very close. These bryofloras represent not only the transitional characteristic between...
