The geometrical simplification of LOD models, the modeling and the visualization of Multi-resolution terrain, which are the hotspot all over the world, and are broadly applied in Geographic Information of System (GIS), digital city and Virtual reality (VR). The theory studied the geometrical simplification of LOD models and the realization methods of LOD models of terrain.The theory studied PM methods of models and improved the way of simplification decided by the shortest line strategy, finally, founded that this new method not only computed easily but also kept the geometrical characteristic of models perfectly. making use of quad-tree structure, the theory discussed the constructing arithmetic of terrain models of LOD, finally realized the fast visualization to topography data .at the same time, researched the producing principles of crack in terrain models of LOD, then adopted the method of reducing line to control it, in the end, the theory realized the model of LOD in terrain.Finally, aiming at the studied condition of theory, the author pointed out the direction of further study.
