Donghai town locates northeast part of Jiangsu province, which is from 34°11′N to34°44′N and from 118°23′to 119°10′. The town has nature geological advantage. Its traffic is much convenience. Lianyungang Minhang airdrome is only 10 kilometers away from the town. Longhai rail way comes across the board. 310 national highway which starts in east of Lianyungang intersects with 204 national highway which starts in Yantai, Shandong province and ends in Shanghai. The two highways, one from Tongjiang of Heilongjiang province to Sanya of Hainan province, the other from Lianyungang to Huoerguosi of Xinjiang province invested by nation connects here. Freshwater shipping line is about 200 kilometers, which can reach canal, Changjiang River and get to Huang Sea. Sea shipping transport can reach every nation cities along the sea and can also get to the treaty port of world by Lianyungang port.Objective of this article is to offer proper distinguishing standard for the quartz gravel used to made quartz glass tube by analyzing quartz gravel basic mineral characteristics such as color, specific gravity, rigidity, diaphaneity, configuration and construction and analyzing major elements'characteristic, absorbency and air bubble bugs. Offer suggestion for the floatation of quartz gravel and purification.During research, many scientific methods and techniques have being conducted, include: field investigation and recording, identifying under microscope, X radial fluorescence analyzing, violet-visible light photometer and bubble bugs analyzing.By analyzing the color, break, rigidity, diaphaneity, configuration, construction and specific gravity, it is found that DHA, DHB and DHC series have the same changing trend. The gravel color of DHA series appears achromaticity, ivory-white and white. States of break change from conchoids to serration. Rigidity changes little. Diaphaneity changes from transparency to opacity. Configuration changes from the state of dense to mid-size, small-size. There's no change for the construction. Specific gravity changes appreciable a little bigger mainly caused by the increasing of impurity content in gravel. The content of SiO2 keeps above 97%. DHB,DHC001-DHC050,DH051-DH100 series samples have the same characteristic as that of DHA.Quartz gravel sample identifying under microscope presents that four series sample is similar under the microscope. The samples of first grade quartz gravel appear extinction under the crossed nicol and lucency under single polar. The samples of third quartz gravel present that muti-crystal grains get extinction at different time under crossed nicol. Single-crystal grains'size is not big and contacts in the form of seam. They have cleavage and obvious crack. The present of second grade quartz gravel is around the two while the single crystal is comparatively bigger than that.X radial fluorescence analyzing is as mail test tool from which we can see the change trend of element in the samples. Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO is the major impurities and the existing state of those impurities decides the difficulty of the purification. Fe element is the main impurity in local quartz gravel materials judging by stat. data. Testing data of SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO in DHA, DHB, DHC001-DHC050, DHC051-DHC100 shares similar change trend. So the result of elements analyzing can not be looked as judgment standard.Violet-visible light photometer analyzing says that some samples of DHA and DHC001-DH050 share the same change characteristics on the absorbency curve. The curves have obvious wave crest when the samples are heat to 100℃, 200℃, 300℃while curves are much flat being heated to 400℃, 500℃. The change curves of DHB samples are much similar to that of DHC050-DHC100. Though the curves of some samples appears don't fit the change trend of their group, it has no effect to the whole test result. DHC001-DH050 series samples are collected in Ninshan areas which are on behalf of the gravels of pegmatite type vein quartz. It can conclude that quartz gravels created by pegmatite type vein quartz have greater ability to be used as the material of producing quartz glass tube. It offers one means to tell the quartz whether can be used.Quartz gravel bubble bugs analyzing is actually one mini-experiment of making quartz glass tubes. One hand it is used to test gravels'feasibility of producing tube, on the other hand it can be used to offer a new mean to tell good or bad of quartz gravel by quantities of bubbles. DHA series samples all can be made into glass tube while the quantities of bubbles increase with the decrease of quality.It is conclude that quartz gravel samples have obvious absorbency curve characteristics when are heated to 100℃, 200℃, 300℃by using violet-visible light photometer analyzing method. It is one efficiency way to tell the quality of quartz gravels.
