JiaoZuo is an old industrial city, which have already had long time history of mining coal. Because long-term underground mining, it had caused land subsidence and other series of geological disaster in the west of the city, particularly in the ZhongZhan District. The hazards induced that a lot of lands can't be plowed or programmed for construction, and threated and endangered the working and living conditions of the local residents seriously. Moreover, For the government, the hazards also restrict the economic development and farsighten programming in the western region of the city. The settling area of the western region is an important project of the city, which is programmed to place in the coal cavity in the Wang Feng coal mine. Inside the area, it appeared a series of geological hazards, such as land subsidence, landslide, rock falling, debris flow, and land collapse. Directly, these hazards caused the uneven ground , the road and wall cracked down, the farmland subsided, the soil erosioned, and the current building breaked. Consequently, they caused a great deal of the breakage and waste of land and resources, the total amount results in the economy loss almost reach several ten million RMBs.The cost of the hazards in a not very big city is so much that we all shocked, and if the hazards occur in a citieses, a provincese or a country, how bigger will the loss be? These results affect the development of the national economy and the stability of society more serioursly. So it is quite necessary to research and probe into the origin of geological hazards to prevent and cure these programmes, and make use of an existing land resources well.This article assesses the risk of geological disaster near the settleing area of the western region of JiaoZuo by analysing the factor of hydrology, engineering and environment geology conditions, and using the high density electrical method. In the assessment process, we analyzed carefully to probes into the origin and induce factors of geological hazards, from which we found out that land subsidence is the main type of geological hazards, and the formation of land subsidence is by mining coal in robbing, normal recover and individual stealing at the period of the WangFeng coal mine being closed, and the main cause is rock type of the coal layer at roof and groundboard, strike and dip, long and deep ratio in the mineral area, the boundary function of the ZhongZhan fault, and the management of the roof in WangFeng coal mine. The article discussed the hazard of coal cavity,and then combined the theory of distribution at the three belt of cavity and the strain in foundation with the geology factor of hydrology, engineering and environment geology conditions. We also predicted the later period of engineering project and the trend of development. Based on the dangerours grade of geological hazards in the settling area, we put forword some curing methods like land reclaimation, construction design and grouting to enhance the monitor and prediction of cavity subsidence, which is also a mirror of other projects.
