Due to the effects in aspects of simulation and inverse of SAR imageries of internal waves, the study of fission of internal tides on the continental shelf/slope is paid considerable attention in recent years. This study is a further one on fission of initial soliton in single- and two-layer fluid (or ocean), the emphasis is focused on experimental and numerical investigation under condition of laboratory experiments.1. The fission of the surface solitonsFission of solitons in the single- and two-layer fluid are investigated theoretically, numerically and experimentally. First, a derivation of the basic equation-a variable coefficient KdV is recapitulated as the solitons pass through a sharply varying topography, the main aim of doing this is to reduce the KdV equation into the laboratory frame, so that theoretical results could compare with the experimental ones. At the same time, we introduce the experiments of fissions of surface solitons , which we have done.2. The fissions of interfacial solitons in two-layer stratified fluidDerivations of two dimensional KdV equation, which is used to study the fission of initial interface solitons in two-layer stratified fluid (or ocean) is described, and a ray-type 2D-KdV equation is derived by means of a frame transformation. By using a reduced ray-type KdV equation, theoretical and numerical research of the fission of the interfacial solitons are carried out,and the initial soliton, which is obtained from our laboratory experiments, is inserted into our numerical model equation. In addition, theoretical, numerical and experimental results are compared in this paper. From the comparisons between theoretical and experimental results, it is shown that both are in good agreement.Based on analyses with respect to theoretical, numerical and experimental results obtained in the present paper, it could conclude that(a). the surface solitons at the free surface in the single-layer fluid and the...
