The coastal zone is the sea and the land correlation region, its environment evolution is active but complicated. The research of coastal zone has significance in economic development, environment protection, as well as human activities.Firstly, some foundation questions of the coastal maps and the GIS research have been discussed, according to the findings about the coastal zone and the shoreline natural process by the predecessor; Secondly, utilizing Landsat TM/ETM+ images, during the course of the coastline secular variation, the questions of the spatial data organization and processing have been studied by the means of RS and GIS. The water body information has been withdrawn out of the images quickly, using the improved water index MNDWI. Then, the study has revealed the shoreline changes through the change examination and the change information extraction; Furthermore, digital elevation model (DEM) is used to analyze the coastline short-term periodic change which mainly caused by tide. Based on the DEM and the GIS spatial analysis function, the research has discussed the submergence loss as well as the application of littoral tourism influenced by the rise of the tidal level. And also has studied the automatic abstraction of types of different riverbank; Finally, the prediction models of coastline change have been summed up, combined with the coastline change of the specific region.
