Castanopsis cariesii community was a typical and stable diamax community in subtropical area, in which there have been complex competition relations among populations. With the aid of the important value, the niche and the interspecies association ,this paper studies the competition intensity of populations which were the main dominant species in different restoring phase(1993,1995 and 2005).According to the Hegyis. single tree competition index model ,we have analyzed the intraspecific and interspecific competition intensity of Catanopsis cariesii and different populations within its own community. According the predicted model to calculate the competition intensities between the competitive trees and the objective trees. And predict the competition intensity of Catanopsis cariesii and the associated tree species.Based on the above result we could master the dynamic rule of the competition intensity among tree species in Catanopsis cariesii community1. The result of community structure in different restoration phase showed: In the natural Catanopsis cariesii community (1993) the height structure showed the continual distribution .The ratio of different height layer of canopy is 0.24%, 3.21% and 4.51%; ,and shrub layer have two sub-layers: 3-5m(8.23%) and 1-3m(32.49%).The most plants are lower than lm(55.33%)which showed the plant in this layer is the stable growth layer. In this phase the diameter structure showed the most plant (65.33%)were less 1cm,and the other ratio was reducing with the layers. After 1 year restoring (1995)the height structure and the diameter structure only showed two layers. The height of the plant lower than 1m had the percentage 85.23%. The diameter of plants less than 0.32cm had the percentage of 92.88%. After 10 years restoration (2005) the height structure and the diameter structure took the continual distribution again.The layer taller than 20m had not be founded ,and the Ⅰ and Ⅱcanopy layer respectively had the percentage 0.97% and 10.33%,and the shrub layer had the percentage of 12.97%and 42.57%. compared with the Catanopsis cariesii community (1993) the shrub layer plants which between 1-3m (42.57%) became the growth layer. It showed the shrub had developed the dominant layer after 10 years restoring.And the diameter structure had the same distribution rule with the height structrue,and the diameter of plants just between 0.32— 1.59cm take the higher percentage.2.The results of the important value in different restoration phase showed that the value of population were changing with the restoring stage of the natural forest.In the natural Catanopsis cariesii community (1993) the value of Catanopsis cariesii, Pinus massonina and Cunninghamia lanceolata were the biggest . After 1 year restoring (1995) many deciduous tree species number increased obviously and had the increased importance value , the importance value of Pinus massonina was 22.614 which higher than it in 1993,but the importance value of Catanopsis cariesii was 14.441 which lower than it in 1993,the following dominant trees species were Cunninghamia lanceolata...
