Lycoris Herb. in the Amaryllis Family (Amaryllidaceae) has been regarded as comprising about 20 species native to the temperate regions of East Asia, and principally native to China, Japan and Korea. It is a kind of well-known bulb flower in the world, which not only has great ornamental value, but also important medical value. So far, lots of work have been done on the karyotype, morphology, physiology, palynology, medicine and molecule; but there are prodigious disputes remained on the systematic studies of Lycoris. This paper made detailed studies through karyotype analysis and allozyme analysis on the materials which including 9 species of the genus Lycoris and different populations of Lycoris radiata Herb.. It can afford some basic scientific data for the discussion on the systematic ralationships of Lycoris and the further exploitation and ultilization of the Lycoris resources, moreover, this paper has found more differences not only in different species of the genus Lycoris, but also in different populations of L. radiata. The results are as follows:Thirteen populations of L. radiata were investigated cytologically and great variation was discovered. (1) The chromosome numbers are always multiples of 11; the basic chromosome number of L. radiata is X=11. (2) The viration of the chromosome numbers is much great, from 21, 22, 25, 33 to 44; and five populations of tetraploid (2n=44) cytotype (Ma'anshanPopulation Cytotypeâ…¤, Huoshan Population Cytotypeâ… , Xuancheng Populationâ… Cytotypeâ…£, Xuancheng Populationâ…¡Cytotypeâ…¡, Hangzhou Populationâ…¡Cytotypeâ…¡) are first discovered here. (3) The karyotypes show great viration and the chromosomes show great morphological variation. The genome of the 13 populations can be divided into 7 types: the first type with m, st, t and T chromosome, such as Ma'anshan Population (2n=25=1m+20st+2t+2T); the second type with st, t and T chromosome, such as Hangzhou Populationâ… (2n=22=12st+4t+6T); the third type with m and st chromosome, such as Xuancheng Populationâ… (2n=21=1m+20st);...
