The new progresses of natural science between the latter half of the 19th century and the early 20th century are the activator of the forming of Dewey' s view of science. He thinks that the essence of science is instrument to control and to utilize natural world. It is an entity which including scientific knowledge, scientific method, scientific spirit and scientific attitude, and its essential aim are to benefit human being. Dewey protests that scientific method must be used in social life based on his cognition about modern social crisis. Science and other forms of social ideology, such as art, morality, democracy, religion, etc, are all belong to a consecutive experience entity of human life. He endows science with humanism significance and characteristic. Under the precondition of human's well-being coming first, Dewey seeks the unification of scientism and humanism. His view of science is still of great significance in nowadays. A study of his view of science could enrich the research of philosophy of science and research of John Dewey.
